How did I become involved with Border Collie Trust GB?
Well, it started years ago, we had two collies and we thought it would be a good idea to give a home to a third.
To cut a long story short, we collected a dog from the Trust, but after a short while it was clear that Roy, the new member of the family would not fit in. The policy of the Trust is that they will always take back a dog if it does not work out, so off we go to the home of Jenny Booth in Rugeley to return Roy, this was in a time when the new kennels was only a dream.
On the return journey home I could not forget the image of Jenny's' bungalow, puppies running round the front room, followed by Jenny with mop and bucket in hand, it was at this point that I knew I had to do something to help.
How I started was to send letters to numerous companies asking for their help in different ways. I helped at Crufts a couple of years and then to my surprise I received a letter asking if I would consider becoming a Trustee. This is a honour not to be taken lightly and I accepted. In 2000 I was asked to put my name forward to be appointed chairman, how could I refuse, so since the Autumn of 2000 I have been the chairman of Border Collie Trust GB and feel privileged to be so.
All I do for the Trust in the future is for the benefit of all the many collies that desperately need help and to the memory of Ben, my best mate.
