As an animal lover, with a particular passion for dogs and horses, I decided I would like to do something to make a difference, so in 2016 I registered at the Border Collie Trust as a volunteer walking the dogs at weekends. This is something that I love to do and get enjoyment from spending time with the dogs prior to them being rehomed. The smell of the dogs drives my 13 year old Jack Russell, Barney mad when I get home.
A year later I wanted to do something more to support the charity which is when I applied to become a Trustee and also rounded up 25 volunteers from work to use their volunteering days at the centre. I thoroughly enjoy my time at the centre, being part of the Trustee team and spending time with the dogs. I would recommend becoming a volunteer to anyone who loves dogs and wants to get involved.
